I am going to vote

August29

I just watched Barak Obama’s acceptance speech. After years as a politically disaffected, cynical, registered independent, I am going to vote with hope. That’s a big deal.

EDIT: There is a transcript available here.

“I am going to vote”

For the six or so people who may actually read this post…here is what it boiled down to for me: respect.

It is time for intelligent people in America to be able to discuss issues on their merits and disagree, arguing their points and having deep discussions while keeping far away from character assassination, name calling, and all the doctrines of men which divide while allowing self-righteousness to live and rule.

Well, that and I actually agreed with pretty much everything I heard him say. :)

I think both of them are good men. For me I simply went to both of their web pages and read the official positions they took. Then I thought about how each of those positions would effect the future.

I could give you my conclusions later if you wish.

Also I watched the saddleback forum video. It made it clear to me which one I liked.

the Cone of silence he said, Mccain was in his car listening to the questions.
notice how quickly he responds to the question about teachers.

Well done Matthew. If I could, I’ll vote for Obama as well. I haven’t agreed with Obama on some issues, but I truly believe Obama really wants to change things and he really will try. As President he will expected to say certain things which people won’t like, but that’s the way it. I sincerely believe Obama is a good man and will try his hardest. You choose well Matthew. Make sure you vote and encourage others too.

I’m not so happy with the Biden decision, so I don’t know yet if I’m voting for Obama. I’m not voting McCain, but well…I *am* registered Green, so I’ll be taking a closer look at Cynthia McKinney. And then there’s always write-in voting…as a registered Green I can’t vote in primaries. If I could, I would’ve voted Kucinich. Maybe I still will.

It’s really too bad he didn’t ride down to the stage on a cloud shooting lightning bolts too :(

    +1 For Obama.

I hope he makes it into the White House and that when he gets there he’s in a position to put into effect his policies without being crippled by the Senate/Congress.
